About being an IPSO rep
A representative of IPSO is a bridge between IPSO and the candidates of an Institute. IPSO provides the connection between candidates with the IPA.
The representative (rep) has the same rights as other members. The idea is that he/she can communicate directly with the IPSO Executive Committee, which we call the Ex-Com, where there are representatives of all regions of the IPA, and communicate to other candidates of his/her Institute.
The representative is responsible for collecting the annual membership fees and sending to the IPSO Treasurer, and also to attend to new members, introducing them to IPSO and its programs. The Rep must stay updated about the national and international events of IPSO in order to inform the members of his Institute. That can be done through the website or through contact with the VP of his/her region. The VPs will send information to the Reps in his/her region.
The rep should inform members about IPSO programs and opportunities (VCP, PepWeb, committees of the IPA, etc) and also participate, whenever possible, in the IPSO events of his region. His focus will be on helping candidates with subscriptions, information, or in obtaining accommodation, as in the case of the VCP.
The rep must write a short report about the activity he took part in as organizer or attendant, informing the members of the scientific and social events of IPSO. Speaking English is important but, in our experience, fluency is proportionate to the desire to communicate.
For Vice-Presidents of a region, the contact with the rep is essential in order to be aware of the interests and concerns of the candidates and to seek international support and inform them of the IPA.
The representative has our support to promote activities that offer opportunities for learning and for exchange among candidates and he /she also acts on behalf of IPSO. We believe this is how the spirit of diversity and cultural interchange is spread.
You can propose your own ideas for the activities, for example: an academic activity, a supervision among peers, or to invite a senior analyst for a supervison, or a day of activity and presentation for candidates about IPSO. All of these activities add to and promotes psychoanalysis within different “cultures”. The idea is that analysts in training benefit greatly when exposed to diversity.
In the words of Luca Nicoli and Laura Ravaioli, who have been ipso-rep in Italy, SPI, for many years:
“Be (an) IPSO Rep is not a work or a duty, but more an occasion.” More than think about what we should do, we asked ourselves what we would organize, knowing that we are supported by an istitution and by friends, who are able to sustain our ideas and our projects…
“…we hope to have shared with the italian and foreign colleagues, in all this years, a bit of our enthusiasm.”

Acerca de ser un Representante de IPSO:
Un Representante de IPSO es un puente entre IPSO y los candidatos de un Instituto. A su vez, IPSO es la conexión entre los candidatos y la IPA.
El Representante de IPSO tiene los mismos derechos que el resto de los miembros. La idea es que éste pueda comunicarse directamente con la Junta Directiva de IPSO, que llamamos Ex-Com, donde hay Representantes de todas las regiones de IPA, y también con los candidatos de su Instituto.
El Representante de IPSO es responsable de recaudar las cuotas anuales de membresía y de enviar el recibo a la Tesorera, y también de invitar a nuevos miembros a formar parte de IPSO y su programa. Debe estar informado acerca de eventos nacionales e internacionales de IPSO para poder informar a los miembros de su Instituto. Esto puede ser realizado a través del sitio web o contactando al VicePresidente de su región, quien le enviará la información que necesita.
El Rep de IPSO debe informar a los miembros acerca de los programas y oportunidades de IPSO (Programa de Candidato Visitante, PepWeb, participación en comités de la IPA, etc) y también participar, cuando sea posible, en los eventos IPSO de su región. Su foco será colaborar con los candidatos que puedan necesitar ayuda con datos de inscripciones, información, alojamiento, como en el caso del Programa de Candidato Visitante.
El Rep debe escribir un corto informe acerca de la actividad en la que haya participado, ya sea como organizador o asistente, comentando a los miembros, acerca de las actividades de IPSO, tanto científicas como sociales. Hablar inglés es importante pero, en nuestra experiencia, la fluidez es proporcional al deseo de comunicarse.
Para los Vice-Presidentes de la región en cuestión, el contacto con el Rep de IPSO es esencial para conocer los intereses e inquietudes de los candidatos en buscar soporte internacional e informar a la IPA, cuando sea necesario.
El Representante tiene nuestro apoyo para promover actividades y ofrecer oportunidades de aprendizaje e intercambio entre candidatos y promover que actúe en Representación de IPSO, ya que éste incluye el espíritu de la diversidad y el intercambio cultural, difundido por nosotros.
Tu puedes proponer tus propias ideas para las actividades, por ejemplo, cualquier actividad académica, supervisión entre colegas, o con un analista sénior invitado, un día de actividad y presentación de IPSO a los candidatos. Todo esto suma y promueve el Psicoanálisis entre diferentes “culturas”.
Nuestro apoyo no es económico, pero ayudamos a difundir, informar y buscar alojamiento. La idea es que los analistas en formación se benefician muchísimo cuando se exponen a la diversidad.
